Chunky Charlie – Our Story

Chunky Charlie’s mom had a problem.

She was tired of feeling guilty about the boring, dry biscuits that her best friend was being served daily. She was worried about whether they were good for her precious pup. She wanted to serve him the best in fresh, tasty, home prepared dog food – but how? She certainly didn’t have the time to make it every day, and she didn’t know how to ensure that it would have all the essential nutrients he needed for a healthy, balanced lifestyle.

What she needed was a delicious, per-cooked, ready to serve option that could be easily stored, and was guaranteed to meet her bestie’s nutritional needs. Food that was as fresh and delicious as the food she prepared for herself.

As luck would have it, Chunky Charlie’s mom was already in the meat industry, having provided various South African suppliers with the farm fresh beef, lamb and chicken filling our plates for many years. With the help of expert animal nutritionists, Chunky Charlie’s mom rolled up her sleeves and got to work, determined to meet not only the high standards of the Pet Food Industry Association of Southern Africa, but also the taste test of Chunky Charlie and his furry friends.

Recipe after recipe was trialed, with Chunky Charlie volunteering as an eager guinea pig to make sure they tasted divine. Finally, Chunky Charlie and his mom were ready to share the freshest, tastiest beef, lamb and chicken rolls with South African dogs and their parents.

Steam cooked to lock in vital nutrients and quick frozen to ensure that none of the goodness is lost, Chunky Charlie’s beef, lamb and chicken rolls are the best in home cooked dog food, without the hassle.

This food needed to meet not only the high standards of the Pet Food Industry Association of Southern Africa, but also the taste test of the dog in question, as well as all dogs everywhere. Working with animal nutritionists to ensure that this would be the best food to serve her best friend, the dog’s owner trialled recipe after recipe, bearing in mind two very important elements: one, the food had to have the best nutritional profile. And two – dogs had to love it.

When both necessities were met, Chunky Charlie was born!

Steam cooked to lock in vital nutrients and quick frozen to ensure that none of the goodness is lost, Chunky Charlie’s recipes are specially formulated to meet your dog’s needs. Be your dog’s hero by serving them the freshest, tastiest beef, lamb and chicken rolls.
